NEW YORK, June 28 (Reuters) – Kenny Perry held off late charges by fellow Americans David Toms and Paul Goydos with a superb putting display to win the Travelers Championship by three shots in Cromwell, Connecticut on Sunday.
The 48-year-old, who began the final round a stroke off the pace, fired a flawless seven-under-par 63 at the rain-softened TPC River Highlands to clinch his 14th PGA Tour title.
Perry, who needed only 25 putts, birdied four of the last nine holes on a sun-drenched afternoon to set a tournament record total of 22-under 258.

England’s Nick Dougherty resisted a late charge from Argentina’s Rafa Echenique to claim the BMW International Open by one shot.
Dougherty began with four birdies in the opening five holes to pull level with overnight leader Retief Goosen.
Birdies on 13, 14 and 15 established a comfortable lead, but an albatross at the last helped Echenique to a European Tour record 27 on the back nine.

HOUSTON (AP) — Vijay Singh has offered to help pay the $500,000 bail for financier Allen Stanford, but a federal magistrate would not allow it because the three-time major champion is not a U.S. citizen.
CNBC reported that Stanford’s attorney indicated in court Thursday that Singh, who is from Fiji, offered to sign for a portion of the bail. Prosecutors are appealing the decision to set bail for Stanford, who is accused of swindling investors out of $7 billion.
Stanford has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Singh has an endorsement deal with Stanford Financial reportedly worth $8 million. Although no longer being paid, Singh has continued to wear the Stanford logo on his visor and shirt.

(CNN) — A new putter helped Retief Goosen roll in eight birdies for a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the BMW International Open in Munich.
A new putter provided Retief Goosen with eight birdies to take a two-stroke lead in Munich.
The 40-year-old South African carded an eight-under-par 64 to lead Englishman Richard Finch — and then bemoaned the fact he had not changed his putter sooner.
“It would have been nice to have scored like that at the U.S. Open — I holed nothing there,” Goosen, who finished a respectable 16th at Bethpage Black, told Press Association Sport.
