At long last, Michelle Wei wins 1st LPGA Tourney in Mexico

Imagine that.
Wie ended her long wait by tapping in a birdie putt Sunday at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, and her first tour title may finally quiet the skeptics who second-guessed her career decisions and questioned the fuss over a player without a pro victory.
“Wowwwww …… never thought this would feel THIS great!!!!” Wie posted on her Twitter account.

Ames wins in Playoff at Disney

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) – Stephen Ames won his second title in three years at the Children’s Miracle Network Classic on Sunday, edging George McNeill and Justin Leonard in a playoff.
Ames was calm and cool on greens that were too slick for most of the field on a sun-baked day at Disney World. He finished with an 8-under 64 for the clubhouse lead, watching as McNeill (67) and Leonard (67) failed to pass him. Leonard rimmed out a 16-foot putt for the win in regulation, even beginning to pump his fist in celebration only to watch the ball bounce off. He twice left putts short when he was eliminated on the first playoff hole.
“To be this close and not be able to pull it out is disappointing,” Leonard said. “Obviously, I thought I made it by my reaction. I was surprised it didn’t go in.”

Mickelson made an 18-footer to save par on the 16th after whiffing on a shot, then holed a 10-foot birdie on the 17th to close with a 3-under 69 and overcome a late charge by Els, who held the lead until hitting into the water and making bogey on the final hole.

PGA Tour Player,Doug Barron Given Ist Doping Suspension

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Florida (AFP) – Doug Barron, an American with only one PGA start in three years, was given a one-year doping ban Monday by the US PGA Tour – its first suspension for performance-enhancing substances.

The PGA, which instituted the anti-doping test program last July, imposed the penalty immediately without comment other than announcing the punishment.

Under PGA policy, the exact banned substance Barron was found to have taken was not revealed.

“I would like to apologize for any negative perception of the tour or its players resulting from my suspension,” Barron said in a statement released by the PGA.

“I want my fellow tour members and the fans to know that I did not intend to gain an unfair competitive advantage or enhance my performance while on tour.”

Barron, 40, did not seem to gain any edge based upon his 2009 results and the ban will not exactly strip the PGA of one of its top attractions either.

Barron fired rounds of 72 and 77 and miss the cut in June’s St. Jude Classic at Memphis in his lone PGA appearance of the year. He also has three missed cuts and a disqualification on the Nationwide developmental tour.
