Mahan wins in Arizona

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Hunter Mahan won the Phoenix Open for his second PGA Tour title, coming from four strokes back to beat Rickie Fowler by a shot in a 1-2 finish for former Oklahoma State players.

The 27-year-old Mahan had an eagle and a pair of birdies in a late four-hole span Sunday to finish at 16-under 268. Also the 2007 TravelersChampionship in 2007 winner. Mahan closed with consecutive bogey-free 6-under 65s.

Poulter wins match play Championship

MARANA, Ariz. (AP)

The trophy Ian Poulter is taking home from the Match Play Championship is called the Walter Hagen Cup.

For his first victory on American soil, perhaps that’s only fitting.

Hagen, among golf’s greatest players with 11 majors, was regarded as much for his snappy attire as his record four straight PGA Championships when they were match play.

The Haig would have liked this spunky Englishman.

Dressed in pink on a chilly day in the high desert, Poulter put on a short-game clinic Sunday and led over the final 28 holes on his way to a 4-and-2 victory over Paul Casey in an all-England final at the first World Golf Championship of the year.

The trophy is as stylish as anything in his wardrobe.

With his ninth career victory, and by far the biggest, Poulter moved to a personal-best No. 5 in the world ranking. And as always, he looked good getting there.

Woods delivers but only on his own terms

So much for shedding tears on Oprah.

Tiger Woods is finished. Done. Said all he’s going to say.

Pretty much everything was neatly wrapped up in 13 and a half minutes, certainly to the satisfaction of the trio of women (his mother included) who looked on approvingly from the front row.

Besides, he has other things to do. Sex therapy is apparently just getting interesting, and he’s got some people back at the clinic in Mississippi who might need his help.

Tiger to Talk

Tiger Woods will end nearly three months of silence Friday when he speaks publicly for the first time since his middle-of-the-night car accident sparked stunning revelations of infidelity.

However, his agent said Woods will not take any questions from a small group of media.

“Tiger is reading a statement, a public apology,” Mark Steinberg told FOXSports.com’s Robert Lusetich. “No questions. It is not a news conference.”

It will be Woods’ first public appearance since Nov. 27, when he crashed his SUV into a tree outside his Florida home. Woods’ only comments since then have been made through his Web site.

Woods is to speak at 11 a.m. Friday from the clubhouse at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., home of the PGA Tour.

“This is all about the next step,” Steinberg said. “He’s looking forward to it.”
