AMELIA ISLAND
AN EXPERIENCE TO BE
REMEMBERED

Tucked away in Florida’s northeastern corner, Amelia Island is unlike anything that you would expect to find in the "Sunshine State." It has the charm of the "Old South," more like coastal Georgia or the Carolinas.  Driving onto the island you can feel the cool tranquility of the surrounding stately live oaks welcoming you as the everyday hustle and bustle ebbs away.

CITRUS COUNTY
By Roy Love

Here’s something different

When you tire of the hustle and bustle of your everyday work life and you need a break - a cruise would be nice, but adds up to much time and expense. How about taking a 90-minute drive to Citrus County, just north of Tampa or west of Orlando.
Destination Crystal River / Homosassa Springs. These quiet little communities are located on the west central coast of Florida. They both exude the charm and genteelness of the Old South.

ONE-HANDED GOLFER BOASTS THREE ACES
VENICE - A Florida golfer defied the odds, racking up three holes in one in the past six months, all while swinging one-handed.

According to the National Golf Foundation, the odds of an amateur golfer hitting a hole in one are 12,600 to 1. The odds of what 68-year-old Bill Hilsheimer of Nokomis accomplished could short-circuit a calculator.

His most recent was last week at the 157-yard, par 3 13th hole at the Bird Bay Executive Golf Course in Venice. In January, he aced a 157-yard hole at the Gulf Gate course in Sarasota and in September, he had another ace on a 105-yard hole on a course in Ohio.

Not bad for a player who lost most of his right hand 59 years ago when he was run over by a train in Columbus, Ohio. Hilsheimer, who has a 15 handicap, doesn't use his right arm when he swings.

Robby Robertson, the owner-manager of Bird Bay, was fertilizing the 13th tee when Hilsheimer hit his most recent ace.

"It's not easy to even hit the green on that hole," Robertson said. "I've never seen anything like what Bill has done.

SENIOR MOMENT
By GARRY SMITS

The Times-Union
The competitive line between the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour is getting a bit blurry.
Don't expect the focus to get sharper -- a good thing, according to Champions Tour president Rick George, who said examples such as Craig Stadler winning on both tours last year will result in more interest in the Champions Tour.
"We've got players either on the Champions Tour or coming on this year who are in excellent physical shape and still able to compete on both tours," George said. "I think the more that happens, the more it helps us."

MAN MAKES TWO ACES IN ONE ROUND
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — A 64-year-old man aced two holes in one round Friday, beating odds estimated at 67 million-to-1. Tom Vilardo used a 6-iron on the 163-yard seventh hole and a 7-iron on the 123-yard 13th at the Riverwood Golf Club.
"It was awesome," Vilardo told the Charlotte Sun-Herald

WEIGHT SHIFT KEY FOR SOLID STRIKING
By JON EBERT, ebertgolf@aol.com
Q. I have a hard time hitting the ball solidly. I either hit behind the ball, causing a "fat" shot, or I hit the top half of the ball, causing a "thin" shot. What can I do with my swing to ensure that I'll catch the ball at the bottom of my swing? - K.B., Naples
A. "Fat" and "thin" shots are caused, in most cases, by the same swing flaw. When you're in your address position with the ball positioned slightly forward of center, the center of your body should be slightly behind the ball. As you turn your weight to your right foot on the backswing, your center will be even farther behind the ball. The next move is the key that separates good players from other players.
