TRY A LADY RAZOR DEMO SET, I DID

By Patty Eastman

Did you ever read a story about a golfer using a demo set of clubs, playing a new course, and shooting the round of her life?  Well, that wasn’t the case. But I did use a demo set of clubs, played a new course, and played a better than average round of golf for a 14 handicapper.

I had the opportunity to test a set of Lady Razor Jan Stephenson Signature Series clubs. I was particularly impressed with their overall appearance from the grip, shaft, and club head to the head covers and the bag. Under the direction of Jan Stephenson, every aspect of the set is color coordinated in your choice of Amethyst, Sapphire, Ruby, or Emerald.

The three shades of Amethyst Winn grips not only looked great but also had a very soft and comfortable feel. I have small hands and getting a proper grip on the club is one of the most important steps to my hitting a solid straight shot. I was very pleased with my grip all day and hit most shots solidly at Chi Chi Rodriquez Golf Club in Clearwater, Florida. It is not a very long course 3,929 yards par 71, but it had all the shots.  I never played the course before, but I found it ideal for testing a new set of clubs. My playing partner, Roy Love, had played the course before and proved to be an able guide.

I was hitting a Lady Razor bright Amethyst driver with a firm shaft. I thought I might have trouble getting my usual distance of 170 yards because my current driver has a 9.5 degrees loft.  The Lady Razor driver has a 13 degrees loft, and surprisingly I was hitting it 170-180 range which is definitely good for me. I like how the club head has a directional three-prong alignment.  I felt it helped me correctly position the club behind the ball.

The Fairway metals are unique in that the standard set includes 2, 4, 6, and an 8 wood. Again I liked the alignment aide on the head of each wood.  I must admit I never hit a 2 wood before but loved the added distance it gave me over a three wood.  The Fairway woods were very easy to hit high and straight. I used the 8 wood on a par 3 and was pleased to hit it very high, straight on the green, and stopped quickly-much easier than hitting a long iron.

I hit all iron shots 5-PW solid and straight all day and even hit the pin on the 12th hole and dropped the ball two inches from the hole.  I’m seldom comfortable hitting my pitching wedge but felt comfortable hitting the posiweighted Lady Razor pitching wedge.   I did have trouble with the sand wedge. I’m used to a heavy SW, and think I would add weight to the Lady Razor, but George Baker President of Razor Golf said you don’t have to put lead tape to add weight; his clubs are designed so weight can be added internally.

The next two days I played an executive course at Top of the World, also in Clearwater..  Again I liked the feel of the grips, the ease of hitting the driver, metal woods, and irons. I chipped mostly with an eight iron; found it going mostly straight for the pin and even chipped in once. It seemed that everyone was checking out this eye-catching set.

In conclusion, I would say that the clubs performed beyond my expectations.  They had an exceptional feel. the shots were solid and straight (hit the flagstick twice, once in the hole), they set up nicely and their overall appearance, in my opinion was exceptional.  And by the way they are also affordable and offer an excellent value.

If you're thinking about changing clubs or are new to the game and want get off to a good start, take a good look at the Lady Razors by Jan Stephenson. Try out a demo set and I'm sure that like me you will definitely rate them a TEN!
